With pooling, however, utilization was 52.0%, nearly a four-fold increase. Another way of measuring the benefit of pooling is examining the quantity of telephone numbers saved through pooling. With pooling, 76.3 million telephone numbers were distributed to carriers in pooling areas. Had there been no pooling, 276.2 million telephone numbers would have been distributed to the carriers.
